Reds under the Beds

Tomorrow (Thursday) we will begin our look at the Cold War.  In addition to reading the "JFK Moon Landing" Article please use the internet to do some original research on Senator Joseph McCarthy's pursuit of American Communists.

Please bring one interesting fact, story, question that you discovered to class.

While you are doing your research, you may like to consider what these modern-day "witch hunts" had in common with the Salem witch trials of the 17th century.

OTHER LINKS:

In the "links" section at the right of the page, I have also loaded several links that you might like to look at related to this period.

They include:

African American Civil Rights

Welcome back to US History & Government!

In this short block we will take a look at the continuing struggle for equality faced by black Americans in Week I; and a World at War in Week II: two topics that show both the worst and the best of our Human Nature.

In Week I we will be using our original text "The Making of America" supplemented by your own research to build a collective picture of the 400 year struggle that black Americans have faced to be seen as equal, both in the eyes of the law and in the eyes of their fellow citizens.

There will be just one assignment for this week - an in-class poster assignment which I will explain on Monday and describe on a separate page in this blog.

I look forward to seeing you in class on Monday!
